Cross-trade considerations
For larger projects:
- Roofer: rotted fascia almost always means water got past the drip edge or the last course of shingles. If the roof edge is the source, fixing the fascia without the roofer back-charges you a second time. Sequence the roof edge work first, then fascia, then gutter.
- Carpenter or framer: once rot reaches the rafter tails or the sub-fascia, it stops being a trim repair. Bring in framing help rather than sistering a rafter tail off a ladder.
- Painter: new wood fascia needs primer on all six sides before it goes up, and a finish coat after. Decide up front who is doing it and when, because a bare fascia left through a wet season is a warranty argument waiting to happen.
- Siding contractor: soffit and frieze work often disturbs the top course of siding and the J-channel. Coordinate so somebody owns putting it back.
- Pest control: bats, wasps, and squirrels live behind open soffit. If you open it and find an active colony, stop and get the licensed operator. Bats in particular are protected in many states and have seasonal exclusion windows.
- Insulation and ventilation trade: blocked soffit vents and missing baffles are a common root cause of the moisture that rotted the fascia in the first place. Fixing the wood without fixing the airflow guarantees a repeat.
- Electrician: soffit lighting, receptacles, and holiday-light circuits get cut or pinched during tear-off. Have them disconnect and reinstall.
- Scaffolding or lift rental: on two and three story work, staging is a line item and a scheduling dependency, not an afterthought.
Write the sequence into the quote and name who does what. Most cross-trade failures on this work are handoff failures, not skill failures.
