Roof Wash Runoff and Gutter Management Standard
Purpose
A no-pressure roof wash is only "no damage" at the roof plane. Everything applied up there runs off, and where it runs decides whether the job is remembered as a clean roof or as the crew that killed the foundation planting or bleached a neighbor's fence. This standard guarantees the runoff a roof soft wash produces is captured, diverted, and cleared from gutters and hardscape before the truck leaves, and that a job near a storm drain gets its jurisdiction question answered before the mix tank is ever filled, not discovered mid-wash when the water is already moving.
Without this discipline, the wash itself can be executed perfectly to the soft-wash procedure and the visit still ends in a damage claim: a boxwood hedge scorched under a downspout outlet, a paver patio streaked white, or a customer's stormwater complaint reaching the shop before the invoice does.

Before the mix tank is filled

The procedure
Confirm the stormwater path before the truck comes off the trailer. Walk the property and trace where each downspout and any roof-level scupper discharges: lawn, a bed, a paved area with a floor drain, or a visible storm inlet. Acceptance: every discharge point named on the ticket, with the office's stormwater-authority answer attached wherever a storm inlet or combined system is involved. Wrong looks like assuming grass absorbs everything without checking where the downspouts actually end. Pre-wet and cover landscaping directly under eaves and discharge points. Saturate the soil around beds and foundation plantings that sit under a valley, an eave edge, or a downspout outlet with plain water before any chemical reaches the roof above them, and physically cover or tie back anything that cannot be moved. Acceptance: visibly saturated soil under every identified runoff path, and covers placed on plants directly in line with a discharge point. Wrong looks like dry soil left under a downspout outlet, which concentrates chemical into the root zone instead of diluting it. Stop rule: a plant that cannot be adequately covered, most often a mature shrub against the foundation, gets a mandatory plain-water flush in step 5 noted on the ticket instead of being skipped. One run of this procedure, filled in
