Fencing
What the Fencing pack adds: runs priced by the linear foot, gates, post work, the locate ticket, and a truck list of posts, panels and hardware.
The Fencing pack tunes Manuall for wood, vinyl, chain link and ornamental aluminum runs, gate work, post and section repair, staining, and pool-code barriers. Apply it at signup from the Trade dropdown, or any time from Settings -> Vertical Packs.
What the pack adds
Custom fields
Fourteen, on three entities. There are no Customer fields and no Invoice fields, so if you sell mostly to builders or property managers, add your own (gate code, PM contact, PO required) in Custom Fields. The pack does not guess at that.
- Job: Scope (New Install, Repair, Gate, Staining), Height (4 ft, 6 ft, 8 ft), Gates (number).
- Equipment: Run Material, Run Height, Run Length (Ft), Post Setting, Gate Hardware. The fence run is the asset, so the second visit starts from what the first one measured.
- Lead: Goal, free text. Privacy, dog, pool code, or the neighbor.
Job templates
Thirteen, each with a duration for the slot finder and a required skill: New Fence Install (960 min), Commercial Chain Link Install (960), Pool Fence (Code) (720, skills FenceContractor + PoolCode), Fence Staining (480, + Staining), Automatic Gate Operator Install (480, + GateOperator), Fence Removal and Haul-Away (300), Fence Repair (240), Section Replacement (240), Gate Install / Repair (180), Post Replacement (180), Emergency Fence Repair (180, Emergency priority), Layout + Estimate (90), Annual Fence Tune-Up (90).
Every one carries DefaultServices, so applying a template pre-fills the billable lines. New Fence Install lands 150 ft of New Wood Fence. Commercial Chain Link lands 300 ft of fence, 300 ft of slats and one gate. Emergency Fence Repair lands the service call, the after-hours premium, 3 hours of repair and two panels. Change the quantity to the run you actually measured; the qty is a starting shape, not a quote. Eleven of the thirteen link to a checklist; Fence Staining and Layout + Estimate do not.
Services
Twenty-four, all badged "Set your price" until you save them, each carrying Member and Commercial tiers plus a Cost, so margin shows the moment you correct the price. Priced by the linear foot: New Wood Fence 28.00, New Vinyl Fence 38.00, New Chain Link Fence 18.00, New Ornamental Aluminum Fence 48.00, Pool Code Fence 42.00, Old Fence Removal and Haul-Away 7.50, Chain Link Privacy Slats 9.50, Fence Staining 2.95.
By the unit: Gate Installation 295, Post Replacement 195, Section Replacement (8 ft Panel) 165, Gate Repair 145, Leaning Post Reset and Re-Plumb 125, Fence Layout and Stake-Out 125, Gate Hardware Upgrade 95, Post Removal and Concrete Breakout 85, Automatic Gate Operator Installation 2450. By time or flat rate: Service Call and Diagnostic 89, Fence Repair 85 an hour, Additional Crew Labor (Two-Man Crew) 145 an hour, After-Hours and Emergency Service Premium 175, Fence Permit Filing 185. Recurring: Annual Fence Inspection and Tune-Up 189 a visit, Fence Maintenance Plan 279 a year.
Seven are flagged to show on Public Booking and the public site: the two gate lines, staining, the tune-up, the maintenance plan, removal, and the gate operator. Nothing priced by the foot is bookable, because a homeowner cannot pick a 150 ft run off a dropdown.
Checklists
Three, 45 items, shipped for you to check against your own procedure in Checklists.
- New Install Checklist, 22 items. Property line and easements confirmed, layout, posts plumb in concrete, then the numbers that settle an argument later: post depth, hole diameter, local frost line, spacing on center, concrete bags per post, cure time before hanging gates, height at finished grade, gate opening width, ground clearance, latch release height above grade (required), sphere test on the largest opening, hardware set, grade handling (stepped, racked, or level), and two photos.
- Repair Checklist, 12 items. Cause of failure as a pick list (post rot, wind, vehicle impact, ground shift, hardware, animal, age), post rot depth probed at the grade line, gate sag at the latch corner, boards replaced, material match, before and after photos.
- Pre-Service Safety Check, 11 items. The locate ticket number and its valid-through date, digging method, hand dig inside the 18 in tolerance zone, private lines identified (irrigation, invisible fence, low voltage, septic, pool), overhead clearance at the auger mast, a photo of the marks, open holes covered before you leave.
Parts
Twenty-two, across nine categories: Wood Fencing, Vinyl Fencing, Chain Link, Ornamental Aluminum, Post Setting, Fasteners and Gate Hardware. Treated posts and rails, cedar pickets, ring-shank nails by the pound, vinyl posts and privacy panel kits, 9-gauge fabric by the roll with terminal and line posts, top rail and a 50 ft fitting kit, aluminum panels and posts, fast-setting concrete by the bag, self-closing hinges, gravity fork and magnetic pool-code latches, an anti-sag brace kit.
Cost and price are a national average. On hand is zero and there is no reorder point, because nothing can know what is on your truck. Counting the trailer once is the first pass in Parts and Inventory.
The bill of materials is 32 rows across eleven services, written per unit of sale. New Wood Fence consumes 0.13 posts, 0.38 rails, 2.2 pickets, 0.07 lb of nails and 0.25 bag of concrete per linear foot, which works out to roughly 8 ft on center and about two bags a post. New Chain Link Fence carries 7 of the 32 rows because it has the most separate pieces. If you set posts 6 ft on center, or pour three bags in clay, edit the quantities once and every future job costs correctly.
Seasonal pricing proposals
Eight, all switched OFF. The engine ignores an inactive rule, so nothing moves until you turn one on in Seasonal Pricing: Frozen Ground Season (New Wood Fence, Dec 1 to Mar 1, 1.15x), Pool Opening Rush (Pool Code Fence, Apr 1 to Jun 30, 1.20x), Storm Season (Fence Repair, Mar 1 to Jun 15, 1.15x), Fall Booking Lull (New Chain Link Fence, Oct 15 to Nov 30, 0.92x). The frost rule is wrong for a Gulf Coast shop and the fall discount is wrong if October is your busiest month. Read each one before it goes live.
Typical workflow
- Lead comes in, Layout + Estimate goes out as a 90 minute visit. Stake the corners, measure the run, count the gates, then quote off the linear-foot line.
- Install estimates run into five figures, so send them with a deposit through Estimates and Deposits. Material gets bought before a post goes in the ground.
- Pull the locate before the crew rolls. The safety checklist holds the ticket number and its expiry so nobody digs on a stale ticket.
- Rock, buried debris, or a fence line that is not where the plat says it is becomes a Change Order, not a quiet edit to the original. Additional Crew Labor is the line for it.
- Permit work (pool barriers, most commercial, height over the local limit) tracks in Permits with Fence Permit Filing as the billable line. Flag the jurisdiction fee billed to the customer so it does not eat your margin.
- The Annual Fence Tune-Up is the repeat revenue: a Service Contract wrapping a yearly recurring job, which finds the rot before the customer's neighbor does.
Property lines, locates, and pricing by the foot
Property line first. "Property line + easements confirmed" is a required item on the New Install checklist because moving a finished fence 18 inches costs more than the original install. Photograph the survey pin or the plat and attach it to the job. When the neighbor disputes it a year later, the file answers.
Locate second. The call is free and the fine for hitting a gas line is not. The safety checklist captures the ticket number, the valid-through date, and a photo of the marks at the dig line, and it asks about the private lines the utility locate will not mark: irrigation, invisible dog fence, low-voltage lighting, septic laterals, pool plumbing. Those are the ones that actually get cut.
Pricing third. The catalog prices by the linear foot on purpose, but a foot of fence is not a fixed cost. Corners, ends and gate posts eat more concrete and more labor per foot than a straight run, so a 40 ft job with two corners and a gate costs very differently per foot than a 300 ft straight shot. Set the linear-foot price against a typical run and let the unit lines carry what breaks the average. If your ground is rock or heavy clay, raise the concrete quantity in the bill of materials before you raise anything else.
Re-applying and mixing packs
Applying the pack again only adds what is missing; your prices, quantities and checklist edits are never overwritten. Fence shops often carry a second pack: Deck Building shares the crew and half the truck, Concrete picks up the flatwork customers ask about while you stake, Pressure Washing pairs with the staining line, and Pool Service fits if pool-code barriers are a real share of installs. Apply them from Vertical Packs.
