Standby generators

The Generator pack tunes Manuall for standby installs and replacements, transfer switch work, annual and plan service, load bank testing, and portable hookups. Apply it at signup or from Settings -> Vertical Packs.

What the pack adds

Custom fields

• Job (3): Scope (Install, Service, Repair, Load Test, Fuel), Transfer Switch (a yes/no box), Last Run Hours. Last Run Hours is a text field, so it will not sort or total; the Annual Service Checklist captures the hour meter as a real number and that is the one to trust.
• Equipment (5): Rated Output (kW), Fuel (Natural Gas, Propane, Diesel, Gasoline), Cooling / Configuration (Air-Cooled Standby, Liquid-Cooled Standby, Portable), Transfer Switch (Type / Amps), Oil / Filter / Plug Specs. The Equipment record is the set on the pad, so the second visit starts from what the first one read off the data tag.
• Lead (1): What Do You Need Powered? Free text, because the caller says "the fridge and the well pump," not "14 kW." No Customer and no Invoice fields ship, and none of the nine are required. Add your own at Custom Fields.

Job templates

Thirteen, each with a duration for the slot finder. Standby Install 960 min, Generator Replacement 600, Transfer Switch Install 480, Portable Setup / Hookup 240, Fuel System Service 180, Controller Board Repair 150, Annual Service 120, No-Start Repair 120, Maintenance Plan Visit 120, After-Hours Emergency Call 120, Load Test 90, Portable Tune-Up 75, Battery Replacement 60. That 960 is a flat sixteen hours on a multi-day job, so schedule that one by hand and use the template for the scope, the notes and the checklist.

Required skills: Generator on all thirteen, plus Electrical on the five that touch the panel (Standby Install, Generator Replacement, Transfer Switch Install, Portable Setup / Hookup, Controller Board Repair) and Gas on the three that touch fuel (Standby Install, Generator Replacement, Fuel System Service). If nobody carries those tags at Team and Availability, the slot finder gates every tech off the job.

Twelve of the thirteen pre-fill billable lines; Fuel System Service is the one that does not. Two pre-fill the per-kW install line at 22, a placeholder for a 22 kW air-cooled set rather than a measurement, so change it to the rating you are actually setting. Neither pre-fills fuel line footage, so measure the run and add the per-foot line before the estimate goes out.

Every template links a checklist: the install checklist on Standby Install and Generator Replacement, the service checklist on Annual Service and Maintenance Plan Visit, the Pre-Service Safety Check on the other nine. Two of those nine are miscast. Transfer Switch Install never sees the neutral-configuration, ground-and-bond and wiring-photo items, and Load Test never sees the voltage, frequency and amp-draw fields that are the whole record of a load test. Repoint both.

Services

Twenty-four price book lines, each with Default, Member and Commercial tiers plus a cost, all badged "Set your price" until you save them. Ten are flagged for public booking and the public site, After-Hours Emergency Service Call among them; that form makes a lead, not a calendar slot, so a storm-night request still waits on you to call back.

• Service and diagnosis: Diagnostic Service Call (Generator Service), Hourly Rate (Generator Service) per hour, After-Hours Emergency Service Call.
• Maintenance: Annual Service (Air-Cooled) and (Liquid-Cooled), Load Bank Test, Oil and Filter Change (Liquid-Cooled), Spark Plug and Air Filter Tune, Valve Adjustment (Air-Cooled), Portable Generator Tune-Up, and two per-year plan lines, Residential Maintenance Plan (Air-Cooled) and Commercial Maintenance Plan (Liquid-Cooled).
• Repair: Battery Replacement, Controller Board Replacement, Fuel Regulator Replacement. The controller line is labor and programming only; the board itself is not in the pack's parts, so add it or the job goes out short.
• Install: Standby Generator Install (Air-Cooled) and (Liquid-Cooled), both per kW, Transfer Switch Install, Inlet Box and Interlock (Portable Hookup), Fuel Line Run per linear foot, Concrete Generator Pad, Cold Weather Kit Install, Old Generator Removal and Haul-Away, Remote Monitoring Setup. That last line is the labor to mount and connect a module; Manuall does not read the module, its alerts land in the manufacturer's app.

Checklists

Three, shipped for you to check against your own procedure at Checklists. Forty-six items between them, and most capture a number or a choice rather than a tick.

• Annual Service Checklist, 19 items, four required. Hour meter at arrival, controller fault codes, battery voltage engine off, lowest cranking voltage during start, charger float voltage, oil pressure hot, coolant freeze protection, time from start signal to rated voltage, voltage and frequency and amp draw per leg under load, plus photos of the controller display and the service tag left on the unit.
• Standby Install Checklist, 17 items, six required. Clearance to the nearest window, door or vent, static and full-load fuel pressure in inches WC, leak test result, ground and bond at the frame and the switch, neutral configuration (switched 4-pole or solid 3-pole), breaker size, transfer time, exercise timer setting, warranty registration, and photos of the finished set and of the switch wiring before the cover goes on.
• Pre-Service Safety Check, 10 items, six required. Auto-start disabled at the controller before any panel opens, battery negative disconnected, voltage measured at the transfer switch load terminals, meter proved on a live source before and after, fuel shutoff closed where fuel work is planned, exhaust path clear before the run test.

Parts

Twenty truck items across nine categories. Cost and price are a national average, stock is zero and no reorder point is set, because nothing here knows what is on your truck; count it once at Parts and Inventory. The bill of materials wires 25 rows to 13 services. Transfer Switch Install carries a 200 A service-rated ATS that costs more than its own labor line, so quoting that service alone under-bills the job by the whole switch. One part is wired to nothing, the 12 V 2 A battery float charger.

Seasonal pricing proposals

Four rules, all shipped switched off. The engine ignores an inactive rule, so nothing moves until you open one and turn it on at Seasonal Pricing.

• Peak Hurricane Season, Aug 1 to Oct 31, 1.20x on Standby Generator Install (Air-Cooled). Only that line, not the liquid-cooled one, and on the Gulf one three-month window understates the season badly.
• Winter Storm Season, Dec 1 to Feb 28, 1.25x on After-Hours Emergency Service Call. It stops on the 28th, so a leap-year Feb 29 falls outside it.
• Spring Pre-Season Push, Apr 1 to May 31, 0.88x on Annual Service (Air-Cooled).
• First Freeze Warning, Sep 15 to Nov 30, 1.15x on Cold Weather Kit Install. Dead weight where nothing freezes.

Typical workflow

• The agreement is the base. Sell the plan line, run its visits as recurring jobs, and hold the term in a service contract.
• Installs and replacements go out as estimates with a deposit. Carry the electrical or gas permit on the job under Permits, and if you sub the gas line or the panel work, put the sub on the job under Subcontractors. Mark each fee billed to the customer or absorbed so the margin is honest either way.
• Storm calls are the emergency lane. The After-Hours template is priority Emergency and pre-fills the call-out plus one hour, and the rest goes on the hourly line. Send the service record and the load test numbers out through the customer portal, because a commercial customer's inspector will ask for them.

The agreement, and what a load test proves

Both plan lines bill per year, not per visit, and the Maintenance Plan Visit template pre-fills the residential one every time it is applied. On the second visit of the plan year you delete that line or the customer pays for the year twice; the template's own note says so. If the set is liquid-cooled, or there is a second unit on the property, the residential line is the wrong one, and no template pre-fills the commercial plan line at all. Swap it by hand.

A load bank test is not an exercise cycle. A weekly exercise at whatever the house happens to be drawing can run at fifteen or twenty percent load for years, look clean on the controller, and wet stack the engine the whole time. The Load Bank Test line exists so the test is billed as its own visit, and the commercial plan line bundles one a year with the records an authority having jurisdiction asks for. Whether NFPA 110 applies at all depends on what the set backs up: a house is not covered, a life-safety system is.

Re-applying and mixing packs

Applying a pack twice adds only what is missing, so re-apply after an update without losing an edit. Electrical is the usual second pack, since the transfer switch, the interlock and the panel work are that trade. Plumbing covers the gas line if you run your own, HVAC is the common parent business for a residential standby dealer, and Solar fits shops selling battery backup against the same outage worry.
