Tree service

The TreeService pack tunes Manuall for takedowns, pruning, stump grinding, cabling, storm response, and plant health care. Apply it at signup from the Trade dropdown, or anytime from Settings -> Vertical Packs.

What the pack adds

Custom fields

• Job (4): Work Type (Trim / Prune, Removal, Stump Grind, Emergency, Cabling), Tree Height (Under 30 ft, 30-60 ft, 60 ft+), Access (Open, Tight, Crane Needed), Haul Away Wood.
• Equipment (5): Species, Trunk Diameter (DBH, inches), Height Class, Condition / Defects, Support Hardware Installed.
• Lead (1): What Is the Concern?

The Equipment record is the tree, not a machine. One record per trunk you prune, cable, or come back to, so the second visit starts from what the first one measured. If you only do one-off removals off a phone call, those five fields are dead weight; switch them off in Custom fields. They earn their keep on cabled trees, plant health care accounts, and municipal or HOA contracts.

Job templates

Thirteen, each with a duration for the slot finder and required skills that gate who can be assigned: Tree Trimming / Pruning (240 min), Tree Removal (480), Large Tree Removal Crane Assisted (600), Stump Grinding (120), Emergency Storm Response (240), Dead Tree Assessment (60), Cabling / Bracing (240), Hedge / Shrub Shaping (120), Lot Clearing / Brush Removal (720), Annual Tree Care Plan Visit (180), Plant Health Care Treatment (90), Tree Planting (180), Cable and Brace Inspection (90).

Skills used are TreeService, Climbing, Rigging, Crane, Arborist, and Pesticide Applicator, so tag your crew in Team or every template gates everyone out. Each template also carries DefaultServices and pre-fills its billable lines: the crane one drops Tree Removal Over 60 ft, four hours of Crane and Operator, three loads of Wood and Brush Haul-Away, and Tree Removal Permit Filing. Fix the quantities on the job. They are a starting scope, not a quote.

Services

Twenty-three price book lines, all badged "Set your price" until you save them. Removals are banded by size: Up to 30 ft, 30 to 60 ft, Over 60 ft. Stump work is Stump Grinding flat, Stump Grinding by diameter, and Stump Chip Removal and Topsoil Backfill.

Time and equipment: Tree Trimming and Pruning per hour, Tree Crew Labor Three Person with Chipper, Crane and Operator, Aerial Lift and Operator (Bucket Truck), Brush and Undergrowth Clearing, Hedge and Shrub Shaping, Wood and Brush Haul-Away per load, Crew Mobilization and Minimum Job Charge, Emergency Call-Out After Hours. Then Arborist Assessment and Written Report, Tree Removal Permit Filing, Support Cable Installation, Root Barrier Installation, Tree Planting and Staking, Deep Root Fertilization, Systemic Trunk Injection Treatment, Annual Tree Care Plan (Up to 5 Trees).

Prices are a 2025 US national average. Seven are flagged for public booking and the public site: the assessment, the two smaller removal bands, stump grinding, deep root fertilization, planting, and the care plan. Crane hours and 60 ft removals are not, because nobody should book those off a form. The size bands are the assumption to check first: plenty of shops price a takedown by crew day or crew hour and never quote a tree.

Checklists

They are not all checkboxes. The safety check captures the nearest energized conductor, the minimum approach distance held to it, the 811 locate ticket number, wind speed, and a before photo. Removal captures felling method, hinge width, notch depth, decay at the cut face, heaviest rigged piece against the block working load limit, wood disposition, and before and after photos. Pruning captures the objective (Clean, Thin, Raise, Reduce, Restore, Structural), percent of live crown removed, largest cut diameter, and whether the season suits the species.

Parts

Twenty-two consumables in six groups: Cabling and Bracing (cable, grips, eye bolts, brace rod), Saw and Chipper (chain, bar oil, 50:1 mix, wedge, chipper knives), Rigging and Grinding (rope, carbide teeth), Planting and Staking, Tree Health (fertilizer, emamectin benzoate, arborplugs, oak wound dressing), Site Materials. Cost and price are national averages, on-hand is zero, and no reorder point is set, because nothing here knows what is on your truck. Counting it is your first pass in Parts and inventory.

Bill of materials

Twenty-three BOM rows tie parts to nine services, so the tech sees what a job consumes and the office sees what to restock. A cable install pulls 20 ft of cable, two grips, two eye bolts, and a brace rod. A 30 to 60 ft removal pulls a quarter chain, three quarters of a gallon of bar oil, two mix bottles, half a wedge. The fractions are deliberate: they spread the chipper knife set and the grinder teeth across the jobs that wear them out. Book consumables to overhead instead and you can clear those rows.

Seasonal pricing proposals

Five, all switched off. The engine ignores an inactive rule, so nothing moves until you turn one on in Seasonal pricing.

• Storm Season, June 1 to November 15: Emergency Call-Out After Hours at 1.30.
• Storm Season, June 1 to November 15: Wood and Brush Haul-Away at 1.15, because dump lines get long and disposal costs more per load.
• Dormant Season, January 1 to February 28: Tree Trimming and Pruning at 0.88, to fill an empty month while the canopy is bare.
• Spring Planting Rush, March 15 to May 31: Tree Planting and Staking at 1.15.

Typical workflow

• A call lands as a lead with What Is the Concern? captured, then a Dead Tree Assessment job puts eyes and a written report on it before anyone quotes.
• Removals over a few thousand dollars go out as estimates with a deposit. A big tree holds a crew, a chipper, and sometimes a crane for a full day, and the deposit is what keeps the date.
• Heritage, protected, and street trees need a municipal permit before the first cut. Track the application and the fee in Permits, and flag the fee billed to the customer so it lands as a pass-through instead of eating the margin.
• Annual Tree Care Plan customers are a service agreement plus a recurring job, with the plan visit template on the schedule and Member pricing on everything else they buy.
• After a storm, the customer portal carries the photos and the invoice. Nobody wants a phone call about paperwork the week a tree is on their garage.

Working safe, and the day you hire a crane in

ANSI Z133 is the consensus safety standard for arboriculture, and it is what an insurer, an expert witness, and OSHA will measure your job against. The Pre-Service Safety Check exists to leave a record that the crew did what Z133 asks: a job briefing, an identified conductor with the approach distance held to it, an aerial rescue plan with the kit on the ground, saws checked, and an 811 ticket before anything goes in the dirt. Fill it in on the phone in the field, not at the desk that evening.

Crane and climber days raise the stakes. Set the pick plan with the operator before the first cut, and note the heaviest rigged piece against the working load limit of the block and line, which the removal checklist asks for by number. The crane is usually rented in, so log that outfit under Subcontractors with its invoice amount, and file the certificate of insurance in Compliance with an expiry date. An expired COI on a crane day is the exposure that ends a shop, and the dashboard warns you 30 days out.

Re-applying and mixing packs

Apply a pack twice and it only adds what is missing, so your edits and your prices survive. Tree shops commonly also run Lawn Care for the maintenance accounts, Junk Removal for the hauling side, and Pressure Washing in the shoulder season. Apply them from Settings -> Vertical Packs.
