Window replacement

What the WindowReplacement pack adds: measure visits, full-frame and insert installs, glass and hardware repair, and the after-hours board-up.

The WindowReplacement pack tunes Manuall for the two-visit sale: a measured quote, then an install day weeks later once the units land. It also covers the repair work that pays the bills between installs, glass, balances, weatherstrip and leaks. Apply it at signup or from Settings -> Vertical Packs.

What the pack adds

Custom fields

Thirteen definitions, none required, no Invoice fields, all editable at Custom Fields. The Equipment record here is the window in the opening, so the measure sheet lives on the customer record instead of a clipboard in the van.

  • Customer (3): Window Count, Frame Material (Vinyl, Wood, Aluminum, Fiberglass, Composite), Stories (1, 2, 3+).
  • Job (3): Scope (Install, Repair, Retrofit, Full Frame, Glass Only), Window Type (Double-Hung, Casement, Slider, Picture, Bay / Bow), Glass (Single, Double, Triple, Low-E).
  • Equipment (5): Opening Size (W x H), Install Method (Full Frame, Insert / Pocket, Nail Fin New Construction, Retrofit Flange, Block Frame), Frame Material (adds Clad Wood), Glass Package (eight options from Single Pane to Laminated), Condition / Known Issues.
  • Lead (1): What Is Wrong With the Windows?

Job templates

Thirteen, each with a duration for the slot finder. Twelve link a checklist; Measurement + Quote does not.

  • 90 min: Measurement + Quote, Leak Diagnostic, Weatherstrip / Hardware Repair, Emergency Board-Up. 120 min: Glass Replacement, Annual Window Care Visit. 240 min: Window Install (Retrofit), Trim + Casing Repair.
  • 420 min: Patio Door Replacement. 480 min: Window Install (Full Frame). 720 min: Egress Window Installation. 960 min: Bay / Bow Install. 1920 min: Whole-Home Replacement (10 Windows).

Skills are pre-filled: WindowReplacement on all thirteen, Glazing on Glass Replacement and Board-Up, Carpentry on Trim + Casing, Patio Door, Whole-Home and Egress, Structural on Bay / Bow and Egress. If nobody carries those tags the slot finder gates every tech off the job, so tag them at Team and Availability.

Each template pre-fills its billable lines. Whole-Home carries ten full-frame windows, ten haul-aways, ten lead-safe containments and one permit. Board-Up carries the board-up, the trip charge and the after-hours premium, so nothing gets left off a 2 a.m. ticket. Egress carries the install, the permit and one haul-away. Note that Full Frame reserves 480 minutes for one window while Whole-Home allows 1920 for ten, which is 192 minutes each. Both cannot be right; fix whichever one you will schedule from.

Services

Twenty-four price book lines, three tiers (Default, Member, Commercial) plus a cost, all badged "Set your price" until you save them.

  • Installation (5): Full-Frame Window Replacement, Insert Replacement Window Install, Bay or Bow Window Installation, Sliding Patio Door Replacement, Basement Egress Window Installation.
  • Repair (9): Insulated Glass Replacement, Sash Balance Replacement, Draft Seal and Hardware Repair, Window Screen Replacement, Window Sill Replacement, Window Flashing Repair, Window Trim and Casing Replacement, Upgraded Glass Package, Emergency Glass Board-Up.
  • Service (7): In-Home Measure and Written Quote, Service Call and Trip Charge, Hourly Carpentry Labor, Old Window Removal and Haul-Away, Lead-Safe Containment Setup, Building Permit Filing and Fee, After-Hours and Emergency Response Premium.
  • Maintenance (2): Annual Window Care Plan (Up to 15 Windows), Window Seal and Caulk Service. Diagnostic (1): Window Leak Investigation.

Nine are flagged for public booking and the public site: the measure visit, glass, draft seal, leak investigation, screen, seal and caulk, care plan, board-up and sash balance. Every install line stays off, because nobody buys a full-frame replacement off a dropdown. Toggle any of it in the Price Book. Seven lines ship with no estimated minutes (Full-Frame, Insert, Trim and Casing, Upgraded Glass, Screen, Haul-Away, After-Hours), so the job template duration is doing all the work on those.

Checklists

Three, 46 items between them, shipped for you to check against your own procedure at Checklists.

  • Install Checklist, 20 items. Rough opening width and height, diagonal difference corner to corner, sill out of level, sill pan and back dam, shimming and fastening, cavity insulation method, sash operation force, weep holes clear, exterior sealant type, U-factor, openings installed, NFRC label left on for the inspector, plus photos of the prepped opening before the unit is set and of the finished exterior joint.
  • Leak Diagnostic Checklist, 15 items. Test method, time to first water entry, zone where water first appeared, moisture at the sill and at the wall below in % WME, interior glass surface temperature, indoor relative humidity, fogging between panes, recommended repair, photo of the meter. The temperature and humidity pair is there so you can tell a customer it is condensation before you quote anything.
  • Pre-Service Safety Check, 11 items. Build year before 1978, lead test result at the opening, poly containment 6 ft inside and out, working height at the highest opening, fall protection, cleanup verification wipe with waste bagged and sealed, and a photo of containment before any surface is disturbed.

Parts

Twenty-two truck items across twelve categories: Shims and Blocking, Sealants (four), Flashing (two), Fasteners, Glass, Glazing, Screens (two), Sash Hardware (four), Weatherstrip, Trim (two) and Board-Up. Cost and price are a national average, stock is zero and no reorder point is set, because nothing here knows what is on your truck. Count it once and set your own numbers at Parts and Inventory.

The bill of materials wires 51 rows to 14 services. Full-Frame carries six: shims, a gun can of low-expansion foam, 18 ft of butyl flashing tape, 5 ft of sill pan, 10 installation screws and a tube of exterior silicone. Bay or Bow, Patio Door and Egress carry the same six scaled up. The hardware and trim assume a white vinyl double-hung and cellular PVC exterior trim; run clad wood or aluminum and the cam lock, tilt latch, casing and sill nosing lines are all wrong for you.

No window unit is in the parts list. The only glass item is one made-to-size Low-E argon IGU wired to the pane-replacement line. Units are a per-job special order, so buy them against the job on a purchase order rather than pretending they are stock. The egress well, cover and drain rock are not there either.

Seasonal pricing proposals

Five rules, all shipped switched off. The pricing engine ignores an inactive rule, so nothing moves until you open one and turn it on at Seasonal Pricing. Note that only insert work gets a winter discount; full-frame carries no winter rule, so if January is how you keep a crew together, add one against that line yourself.

  • Beat-the-Cold Rush, Aug 15 to Oct 31, 1.15x on Full-Frame Window Replacement.
  • Storm Season, Apr 1 to Aug 31, 1.25x on Emergency Glass Board-Up.
  • Cold Snap Draft Calls, Nov 1 to Jan 31, 1.12x on Draft Seal and Hardware Repair.
  • Winter Slow Season, Dec 1 to Feb 28, 0.88x on Insert Replacement Window Install.

Typical workflow

  • The measure visit is a billable job, not a free sales call. It pre-fills In-Home Measure and Written Quote, and you credit it against the install if you want to. The quote goes out as an estimate with a deposit, and the deposit is what releases the order.
  • Egress and structural openings need a permit; track it at Permits and pass the jurisdiction fee through at cost on the Building Permit Filing and Fee line.
  • Board-ups are the same-day lane. The template already carries the trip charge and the after-hours premium, and the tech measures the opening before leaving so the special order starts that night.
  • Sell the Annual Window Care Plan as a recurring job with the term held in a service contract. The visit logs fogged units and failed balances on the equipment record, which is next year's replacement quote.
  • Glass and seal warranties outlive the install crew. Log them at Warranties; send the labeled photos through the customer portal.

Measure day and install day

Two visits, weeks apart, and everything that goes wrong on the second one was decided on the first. Measure every opening, not one and multiply, and record the opening size and install method on the Equipment record rather than on paper. A 3/8 in error on an insert is a unit that does not go in, and the customer waits another two weeks while you eat the freight.

The deposit is what buys the units. Nothing gets ordered off a verbal yes, because a custom-size window has no resale value if the job walks. Order against the signed measure sheet and keep the supplier acknowledgement on the job so the lead time is visible to whoever answers the phone. On install day, confirm every unit against that sheet before the first sash comes out, and never open more openings than you can close and dry the same day. Pre-1978 means containment on all of them, and the containment line stays on the invoice so the customer sees what the RRP rule costs.

Re-applying and mixing packs

Applying a pack twice only adds what is missing, so re-apply after an update without losing an edit. Siding and roofing sell windows off the same exterior job, and neither ships as a pack yet. What does: Gutters shares the ladders and the same customer, Handyman covers the rot and trim work behind the units you pull, Flooring suits an interior remodel crew, and Window Cleaning puts a recurring line on the houses you just glazed. Apply any from Settings -> Vertical Packs.
