Locksmith
What the Locksmith pack adds: lockouts, rekeys and master keying, door hardware, safes and access control.
The Locksmith pack tunes Manuall for lockouts, rekeys and master keying, residential and commercial door hardware, safes, and access control. Apply it at signup or from Settings -> Vertical Packs.
What the pack adds
Custom fields
- Customer (1): Master Key System, a checkbox. It marks the account that runs a keying chart, so the office knows before dispatch that this is not a walk-up rekey.
- Job (2): Locks, a number, and Keyed Alike, a checkbox. Locks holds the same figure as the rekey checklist item Cylinders rekeyed (count), so pick one place for it or your techs fill both.
- Equipment (5): Hardware Type (deadbolt, knob, lever, mortise, exit device / panic bar, smart lock, safe, access control reader), Keyway, Backset (2 3/8", 2 3/4", mortise, other), Door Material (solid wood, hollow core wood, hollow metal, aluminum storefront, fiberglass, glass), Master Key Group. The Equipment record here is one opening at one address, so the second visit starts from the keyway and backset the first one measured.
- Lead (1): What Is the Problem? Free text, because the caller says "my key snapped," not "worn cylinder." No Invoice fields ship, and none of the nine are required. Add or drop fields at Custom Fields.
Job templates
Thirteen, each with a duration for the slot finder. Lockout (Residential) 30 min, Rekey 45, After-Hours Emergency Lockout 45, Broken Key Extraction 45, Deadbolt Install 60, Door Repair / Realign 60, Smart Lock Install 90, Tenant Turnover Lock Change 90, Safe Opening 120, Quarterly Hardware Maintenance Visit 120, Commercial Rekey + Master 180, Commercial Exit Device and Closer 240, Access Control Install 480. After-Hours Emergency Lockout is the only Emergency priority; Lockout, Safe Opening, Broken Key Extraction and Tenant Turnover are High.
Required skills are pre-filled: Locksmith on all thirteen, plus SmartLock on Smart Lock Install, Safe on Safe Opening, AccessControl on Access Control Install, and Commercial on Commercial Rekey + Master, Commercial Exit Device and Closer, and Quarterly Hardware Maintenance Visit. If nobody carries those tags at Team and Availability, the slot finder gates every tech off those jobs.
All thirteen pre-fill billable lines and carry a note; twelve carry a linked checklist, and Door Repair / Realign ships without one. Three templates guess a quantity worth checking. Tenant Turnover assumes two openings: two deadbolts, two lever sets, two hole plates, four keys. Quarterly Hardware Maintenance puts three months of the monthly plan on the ticket, which is a second charge if that account is already on a recurring invoice. Commercial Rekey + Master pre-fills one Commercial Rekey, and that line is per lock, so a 22 door rekey needs the quantity set to 22.
Services
Twenty-four price book lines, each with all three tiers (Default, Member, Commercial) and a cost, all badged "Set your price" until you save them. Eight are flagged for public booking and the public site: the day lockout, the up-to-3 rekey visit, deadbolt, knob or lever, smart lock install, door and latch alignment, broken key extraction, and safe combination change. The night rate, the commercial lines and the master key work stay off the dropdown, which is right, since none of them is something a homeowner picks off a menu.
- Lockouts, time and keys: Lockout Service Call, After-Hours Lockout Service Call, After-Hours and Emergency Response Premium (per visit), Service Call and Diagnostic Fee, Hourly Labor Rate, Broken Key Extraction, Key Duplication, Rekey Existing Lock (per cylinder), Rekey Service Visit Up to 3 Locks, Commercial Rekey (per lock), Master Key System Design and Setup, Lock Cylinder Replacement.
- Doors, safes and plans: Deadbolt Installation, Door Knob or Lever Installation, Smart Lock Installation, Smart Lock Setup and Programming, Old Lock Removal and Door Hole Cover Plate, Door and Latch Alignment Repair, Exit Device (Panic Bar) Installation, Door Closer Installation, Access Control Installation, Safe Opening and Service, Safe Combination Change, Commercial Lock and Hardware Maintenance Plan (per month).
Three things to settle before you quote off any of it. Deadbolt Installation is described as labor plus hardware and also carries a deadbolt on its bill of materials, so bill it one way and not both; Exit Device and Door Closer read "supply and install" and have the same overlap. Commercial Rekey is a bare per-lock number with no trip in it, so a 20 door job prices at zero travel unless you add the service call or the hourly line. And Access Control Installation is 240 minutes on the service and 480 on the template, so decide which one is your day.
Checklists
Three, shipped for you to check against your own procedure at Checklists. Forty-one items between them, and most capture a reading or a choice rather than a tick.
- Pre-Service Safety Check, 9 items, linked to Lockout (Residential), After-Hours Emergency Lockout, Safe Opening and Broken Key Extraction. ID type presented, proof of authority at this address or vehicle, a photo of the signed work order, a photo of the door and trim before work, whether anyone on scene disputes the customer's right to enter, entry method used, and plate and VIN against the registration on a vehicle. Six of the nine are required, and the ID item says record the type, do not photograph or store the ID itself.
- Rekey Checklist, 14 items, linked to Rekey and Commercial Rekey + Master. Keyway and manufacturer, bitting code set, cylinders rekeyed, keys cut and handed over, dry graphite or Teflon only, new key tested with the door open and again closed, master key tested on every cylinder in the group, and what happened to the old keys. Two required: ownership verified, and the authorization document photographed.
- Install Checklist, 18 items, on the six install and turnover templates. Backset, door thickness, deadbolt throw, strike gap, ANSI/BHMA grade, opening force at the latch edge, 3 inch screws into the framing, smart lock model firmware and codes, before and after photos, old hardware disposition. Three required: backset and bore measured, strike into the stud, egress by one motion with no key or tool. One of the six is Quarterly Hardware Maintenance Visit, where backset and bore are dead weight, so write your own plan checklist if maintenance accounts are real volume for you.
Parts
Twenty-one truck items across nine categories: Key Stock, Rekeying, Locksets, Cylinders, Padlocks and Cabinet Locks, Door Hardware, Access Control, Safe Parts, Lubricants. Cost and price are a national average, stock is zero and no reorder point is set, because nothing here knows what is on your truck; count it once and set your own numbers at Parts and Inventory. Keyways are the assumption most likely to be wrong for you: one KW1 blank, one SC1 blank, one .115 bottom pin set. Restricted or high-security keyways are your first afternoon in the price book.
The bill of materials wires 25 rows to 16 services. Lock Cylinder Replacement carries four (a pin kit, plus key-in-knob, mortise or rim cylinder as options), Master Key System Design and Setup carries 8 pin sets and 6 SFIC cores, and Rekey Service Visit Up to 3 Locks carries 3 pin sets and 3 blanks. Three parts are wired to nothing: the cam lock, the rekeyable brass padlock and the dry PTFE lubricant. Wire them up when you price cabinet work and a padlock keyed into the building.
Seasonal pricing proposals
Four rules, all shipped switched off. The engine ignores an inactive rule, so nothing moves until you open one and turn it on at Seasonal Pricing.
- Moving Season, May 1 to Aug 31, 1.10x on Rekey Service Visit Up to 3 Locks. Every summer closing wants the locks changed the day the keys change hands.
- Deep Winter Nights, Dec 1 to Feb 15, 1.15x on After-Hours Lockout Service Call. It touches the night line only, not the day rate.
- Holiday Break-In Season, Nov 15 to Jan 5, 1.10x on Deadbolt Installation. It overlaps Deep Winter Nights on the calendar but not on any service, so both can run at once.
Typical workflow
- Lockouts are a dispatch problem before they are a lock problem. Closest truck wins the call, so work them off the dispatch board and map and routes, and collect at the door rather than mailing an invoice to an address you just finished proving.
- Rekeys are the volume. Set Keyed Alike on the job, put the keyway and master key group on the opening's Equipment record, and the next call starts from a known keyway instead of a guess.
- Property managers are the recurring lane. Take the work order from the owner or the manager, never the outgoing tenant, run the Tenant Turnover template, and hold plan accounts on a service contract with the quarterly visit as a recurring job and the monthly charge on a recurring invoice.
- Commercial hardware sells off the maintenance walk. Exit devices, closers and access control at these numbers are estimates with a deposit, not a figure over the phone.
- Door and frame work that runs past hardware belongs to a door contractor. Track them under Subcontractors and mark each cost billed to the customer or absorbed, so the job margin stays honest.
Lockouts at 2am, and one key for the whole house
The pack ships two ways to charge a night call and you should pick one. After-Hours Lockout Service Call is already a night price. After-Hours and Emergency Response Premium is a per visit line that rides on top of whatever you performed. Use the premium for the jobs that have no night version, keep the night lockout line for lockouts, and the same ticket will not bill the night twice.
The rest of that call is the Pre-Service Safety Check, which is why it sits on all four entry templates and why six of its nine items are required. Quote the total and take the card before the drive. Record the ID type without photographing the ID. Record proof of authority at that address: deed, lease, utility bill, work order, vehicle registration, or law enforcement on scene. Photograph the door before you touch it, and record the entry method, whether that was non-destructive, bypassed, drilled with written damage consent, or refused.
Keyed alike is a pricing decision more than a technique. Rekey Service Visit Up to 3 Locks is the residential package at one visit price, Rekey Existing Lock is the per cylinder add for the fourth door and the garage, and Commercial Rekey is per lock with no visit in it. Set the Keyed Alike field, record the bitting on the rekey checklist, put the master key group on the opening's Equipment record. The pack ships no bitting field on Equipment, so add one at Custom Fields if you want the code living with the opening rather than inside one job's checklist.
Re-applying and mixing packs
Applying a pack twice adds only what is missing, so re-apply after an update without losing an edit. Security Systems is the natural second pack, since access control, electric strikes and low voltage are already on your truck. Garage Door fits the same residential call and the same keypad conversation, and Handyman covers the door, jamb and trim repairs a lock job keeps turning into. Apply any of them from Settings -> Vertical Packs.
